Mr Minko Balkanski asked Pierre to create the identity for the Minu Balkanski Foundation.
This foundation supports the Institute for Higher Studies, Development of Culture, Science and Technology in Bulgaria that Mr. Balkanski founded in the 1990s, and which organizes every year a competition of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science which opens the way of the French scientific Grandes Ecoles to exceptionally talented young Bulgarians.
The Foundation also works for the discovery and promotion of young virtuoso musicians, the training of secondary school teachers and the attraction in Bulgaria of world-renowned specialists in fields with strong scientific and economic potential.
The oak tree that Pierre chose for the logo is a symbol of majesty, strength and permanence. The tree has a preponderant place in the symbolic vocabulary because it embodies man, life and fertility, moral righteousness and protection, anchoring and wisdom, elevation and tension towards the divine. The natural link between the symbol of the tree and the concept of education and wisdom ends with the initials M and B, which seem to fall from their branch, evoking the forbidden fruit of the biblical narrative of Genesis - the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil.
The character chosen for the name of the foundation is a classic font with a literary and humanistic silhouette.
